Beth Nelson LLC is a small private practice offering individual counseling.
Counseling
Therapy is a unique and highly individual experience with the outcome determined by the effort and motivation you bring to the work. In my counseling approach I focus on exploring client insight and facilitating empowerment. I feel that the client is the expert in his or her life, that the wisdom is ultimately there.
You may have an issue to fine tune, a road block to overcome, a transformation to uncover.
Mostly, I do traditional talk therapy. However, if you are interested, we can bring the benefits of yoga into session.
Parallels exists between conventional counseling and the mindful benefits of yoga. By combining the two in the pursuit of mental health, one can work toward emotional balance and empowerment. Imagine what you can do through the work of being present. So often, we live in the past, or in the future. Understand your "present" and the beauty that resides there.
Yoga
"Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one's being, from bodily health to self-realization. Yoga means union - the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one's actions." ~B.K.S. Iyengar
As a yoga teacher, I incorporate several elements - learn to be present, learn to be patient with one's self, and learn that it is OK to take your time and take care of your self.
As a counselor, I have seen how yoga creates a safe place to be still and look inward. Restorative poses can help with stress management, anxiety, depression and more.
Of course, integrating yoga into counseling is completely up to the client - simply a tool that can be used.
An Integrated Approach
Just as a therapy session can be a microcosm of "life out there," the yoga session can also show how you treat yourself "out there." Do you panic when you can't be perfect? Do you force yourself to do things that hurt? Do you push too hard sometimes? Your responses to these questions could indicate how you experience the world and how you react in it.
Create a place where there are limitless possibilities.
